The Backroads of Appalachia app delivers fun, scenic routes

Backroads of Appalachia app on an iPhone

Red Pixel Studios recently developed and launched an app for Backroads of Appalachia.

Backroads of Appalachia works to drive economic development and opportunity in the poverty-stricken areas of Appalachia through motorsports-focused tourism.

The Backroads of Appalachia app features select beautiful Appalachian highways that are incredibly fun to drive or ride. From peak to valley, the Appalachian Mountains offer awe-inspiring natural beauty, and the people of Appalachia are warm and welcoming.

The app provides information about the communities along the various routes so that visitors can grab a bite to eat, do some shopping, or stay the night. This support of local businesses provides jobs, relieves poverty, and improves the quality of life for the people of Appalachia.

Backroads of Appalachia is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization with a passion for the Appalachian Region, and is based in Lynch, Kentucky, in Harlan County — one of the poorest counties in Kentucky. Lynch once boomed with 10,000 people but now has fewer than 500 residents. There are scores of distressed former coal towns just like Lynch all along the winding Appalachian backroads that are worth visiting and supporting.

The Backroads of Appalachia app is available for iOS and Android.
