The Owensboro Symphony Orchestra is trying a different way to reach its audience with its free iPhone app.
“We’re always looking for new ways to grow our audience and keep our regular patrons updated on what we have to offer,” said Executive Director Karen Miller Porter.
The app is now available in the iTunes store as “Owensboro Symphony Orchestra.” It is the first for the OSO and the only symphony app in Kentucky, Porter said. It was created by Red Pixel Studios, a downtown Owensboro company that specializes in web, print and app design.
“I’ve had great experiences with Red Pixel Studios, and they also created and donated our website, so they can pull things from it for the app pretty easily,” Porter said. “We’ve already had great feedback.”
The app’s features include photo galleries, OSO’s season schedule and summaries of the concerts. It will also eventually highlight different members of the orchestra, among other things.
“We’ll be adding as we go along,” Porter said.
Porter said the OSO was successful in launching the app because of the support of the board of directors and regular patrons.
“Everyone realizes that there are new ways to share information through social media and technology that could reach new audiences,” she said. “So even if they don’t use their phones for such things, their kids or their grandkids do, and they see the importance of us adopting these tools.”
