Red Pixel Studios continued its long relationship with Med Center Health with the launch of a new website that embodies the health system’s vast outreach in Southcentral Kentucky.
Med Center Health is a not-for-profit health system headquartered in Bowling Green, Ky., with a mission to care for people and improve the quality of life in the communities it serves. The integrated healthcare system includes hospitals in Bowling Green, Albany, Caverna (Horse Cave), Franklin and Scottsville, as well as Commonwealth Regional Specialty Hospital, a long-term, acute care hospital.
Med Center Health has a wide footprint. Combined, the hospitals comprise 454 acute-care beds and 110 extended-care beds, with more than 400 physicians in more than 50 specialties. Med Center Health has more than 3,800 employees and 130 employed providers.
With the launch, Med Center Health is well on track toward the objective to bring all of its services under a single brand within a comprehensive.website. The new site makes it easier for patients and their families to find the information they need for prevention and treatment within the Med Center Health system.
Med Center Health enlisted Red Pixel Studios to develop the website, including the content management system (CMS), after we advised them to use open-source software instead of expensive, restrictive proprietary solutions.
Med Center Health worked with Core Creative of Milwaukee on the organization and layout of content for the consolidated website, with Red Pixel Studios consulting on approaches that would make the website and its development more efficient.
With our expertise in WordPress – an open-source project that has evolved from a blogging tool to a simple content management system (CMS) – Red Pixel Studios developed a genuine CMS on top of WordPress, giving Med Center Health a robust system for productively corralling the large amounts of content it manages.
In addition, we created custom blocks for consistency of layout and design, even with multiple editors. With the depth and breadth of rich content on the new website, to help with speed we modularized the code to the extent that it will load only the absolute minimum required to render the site.
