Print campaign for Mental Health Awareness Month promotes support, safety, and connection

Yard sign from Mental Health Awareness Month campaign

For Mental Health Awareness Month in May, we partnered with RiverValley Behavioral Health and Owensboro Health on a regional public awareness campaign centered on a simple but powerful message: Your Mental Health Matters.

The goal of the campaign was to normalize conversations around mental health, reduce stigma, and remind people that support is available. From the outset, the tone was intentionally non-clinical, focusing instead on warmth, openness, and reassurance. Supporting taglines such as Be Kind to Your Mind and You deserve to feel safe, supported, and heard reinforced the message that mental health care begins with compassion and understanding.

The campaign was designed to reach people where they are, both physically and digitally. Materials included posters, table tents, yard signs, newspaper ads, bumper stickers, digital signage, and social media graphics. By carrying the same message across many formats and environments, the campaign created consistent visibility throughout the region, helping ensure that people encountered supportive messaging in everyday settings.

Clear calls to action were an essential part of the campaign. Materials directed individuals to a dedicated website for additional information and resources, and prominently included the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline to ensure immediate help was visible and accessible to those who needed it.

Design decisions prioritized approachability and accessibility. Plain language, readable typography, and a welcoming visual style were used to help the message feel inclusive and safe, reinforcing the idea that seeking help is a sign of strength, not stigma.

This campaign reflects our belief that thoughtful design can play a meaningful role in public health and community well-being. We were honored to support RiverValley Behavioral Health and Owensboro Health in delivering a message of care, connection, and hope during Mental Health Awareness Month.
