We recently completed a new WordPress website for Franklin County Public Libraries, designed to better serve the needs of both library staff and the community.
The previous website was limited by a restrictive layout and design, making it difficult for staff to highlight events, programs, and new resources in a clear and engaging way. Important information was often buried, which in turn made it harder for patrons to discover what the library had to offer.
The new website focuses on usability and discovery. It is fully responsive, ensuring a consistent experience across phones, tablets, and desktop computers, and features improved navigation that helps visitors quickly find hours, locations, events, digital resources, and library services. Clear page layouts and flexible content areas allow the library to highlight programs and timely information without overwhelming users.
From an administrative perspective, the site was built on WordPress to be easy to manage and adaptable over time. Library staff can update events, post news, promote services, and make changes without relying on technical support. This flexibility is especially important for libraries, where programming, resources, and community needs are constantly evolving.
Accessibility was a key consideration throughout the project. The website was built with accessibility in mind, helping ensure that patrons of all abilities can access information, navigate the site, and engage with library services online. As with all of our projects, the site was also designed to be affordable and sustainable, providing long-term value without unnecessary complexity.
